i’m batman

its funny how thats a line. i mean, its such a general statement. really, it probably could apply to all of the different batman incarnations - it could and should just be a nothing statement. but it isn’t, is it? its a line. its michael keaton’s line.

why is that? isn’t it interesting?

i guess, for me, personally, its a line because it was such an incredible moment for me - that moment, when michael keaton said those words “i’m batman”. it was special because, in the most kid-like way it meant batman was… well, i’m embarrassed (but not really embarrassed, otherwise i wouldn’t be writing this) to say, that batman was real.

to see him in flesh and blood - and, when you’re a kid, a hollywood movie is effectively flesh and blood - was just amazing. and so, for me that line is something of an affirmation of his batman-ness. its like, “yes, batman is real and i am he”.

my neckhairs stand on end just thinking about it.

so, i love that line.

so why am i rambling about that line? well, its because of an email that charlotte sent me. here’s the context: charlotte had a nightmare on sunday and in it she dreamt i broke up with her. that was it - that was all she told me. naturally i consoled her, and afterward i thought nothing more of it. that was until she sent me this email:

I was cat woman last night. Thats why you broke up with me. You told my sister i seemed to ahve a double personality. In the end I told you about my secret (it was about a year later) and you begged for me back but I said it was too late. Then you told me that you were batman!! ha ha ha ha!! And you were : )

which was followed by this brief one:

we even went down a building on a special peice of string made just for me by my inventors!

isn’t that brilliant!? on some level, on some plane of existence, it was real. i was him!

i love that.

so:

i’m batman.

EDIT:

charlotte has just piped up that i must say that it was cool that she was catwoman.

and yes, it was cool. when she told me i thought “mraaaoowwrrr…”

but since i am now batman i must resist temptation.
