our poppet arrived!

ever since charlotte has seen those poppets littered all over stainless steel droppings she’s been desperate to get one! once they went on sale on ebay i immediately bought one and it arrived today.

charlotte has put it on top of a book shelf looking up at a photo of the two of us taken in a cave. she said that she’ll move it to a different place every day.

she’s basically giving it a little tour! i love the way she imbues inanimate objects with such life. she sees them as real living things…

That just isn’t right. The two of you look way too cute and stylin’ to be the nerds (at least in your case) that I know you are. Superior nerds at that! 😉

    haha, thanks!

charlotte is a big old nerd. she still uses spyrograph and when she did her degree she tried to read all the sources quoted in the bibliography…

Congratulations on the poppet adoption 😉 I need to get one myself soon. I love how they sort of became the official mascot of the book blogging community (the nerd blogging community, that is :P).

oh you must! they’re quite cheap.

and they have become little mascots, haven’t they? they are so cute!

for me theres actually something quite neil gaiman about them…

Welcome to the land of poppets 😉 They become quite addicting. I’m loving your blog! And I see your a Deftones fan from your banner! Very cool!

I really, really, REALLY want a little pink poppet!! Or maybe a blue one. One of these days, maybe I’ll treat myself!

Nice blog! Just tripped over here from Carl’s. Will have to add you to my blogroll!

thanks chris! i can very well believe these poppets can become addictive. we’ve just got ours and already charlotte wants more! she wants all kinds. i’m personally still quite taken with the red ones.

yeah, i love deftones. i’ve been so poor lately, though, that i still haven’t managed to get the new one. or team sleep! do you have them? are they good?

by the way, you have the coolest header image! i look forward to checking out your blog tomorrow…

the pink ones? oh dear… there are pink ones too…!? if you get one, stephanie, post a pic on your blog. it’ll be like poppets around the world! they’re like little children that go to families all over…

i just had a quick look at your blog – it looks like we’re interested in some similar stuff! i’ll definitely be checking it out.

Hey, JP. You can see a picture of the pink poppet…it is slightly bigger than the average Poppets…here:

My wife and I also got a red poppet last month and now I’ve order a blue one to go with the one we have. Our poppet just seemed too lonely. Plus they defiently take on a different feeling when you see those photos Carl has taken of them in groups of 5 or so. Cute and creepy at the same time.

All of our Tolkien talk this past week or so got to me and I went out and purchased Children of Hurin today. The Alan Lee sketch’s and color plates in it are amazing.

Hey JP, The Team Sleep album is amazing! I never get sick of that one. Highly recommend it when you get some extra cash. Very hazy sounding, very relaxing…similar to some of the more mellow stuff on White Pony. The new album’s pretty good..all in all it’s not my favorite, but there are 3 or 4 songs on there that are excellent. Definitely worth owning for those. The pink poppets are really cool, but like Carl said, they’re much bigger, and they have no faces! Very cool! She makes some incredible one of a kind poppets too, but they sell for quite a bit…well over $100.

yeah, carl photographs them so well that i really want a little troop of them to march around and stare at things in my house too! although one by itself is also cool too…

they are definitely creepy too, but in the best possible way. the pink ones are especially creepy! carl, i didn’t realise it didn’t have a face at first – i initally thought the face was just smudged or blurry or something. the fact that it has no face… well, that is spooky!

we’ve all gone a bit poppet mad, haven’t we!?

thanks for the info on team sleep, chris – i’m definitely going to get it! what are your thoughts on the self-titled one. on the first listen i was really dissapointed, but when i listened again and again i really started loving it. i really like how they developed their sound on that one!

apart from “hexagram” and “minerva” that are obviously good i also like “good morning beautiful” … i could go on… but i absolutely love “battle axe” – the riffs are just amazing! and “anniversary” is just beautiful. that dychotomy of gentle and harsh, beautiful and ugly is just so cool about their music!

I’ve been mad about Lisa Snellings-Clark for quite awhile now:

but her Poppets have made me even more mad about her. If you haven’t, you should join the Poppet Planet forums. I moderate the Machine section (and I’ve been very neglectful. Time to get a new post up there!)

Okay, enough pimping things for one morning! 😉

that rat i keep seeing on your blog is a neil gaiman rat…! i never knew. wow. cool!

i like the rats she does very much.

i had a look at the poppet forum too. i think there’ll be some tourist photos coming to the forum soon. the poppet’s told me that she really wants to see more of oxford…!

  14. June 30, 2007 at 5:49 pm

Hopefully Lisa will have a half-price sale on the rats again in October. She has done this a few times in the fall, bringing them down to $25. I have the Neil rat, the Grim Reaper one and the Poe one…all are great!

    ooh… i hope so!

i’ve been meaning to say, something that i found really special was how lisa included a bookmark and a handwritten note with the poppet. i’d bought a poppet and here i get these extra things which i didn’t expect! 🙂 thats really thoughtful…

We have all gone a bit poppet mad but they just seem to speak to our book lovers souls. 🙂 Count me in as one who also hopes Lisa has a sale on the rats as well this fall. I don’t own any of the rats but would love to pick up a Neil Gaiman one as well.
