back in south africa

… again.

its funny how its worked out – in april i hadn’t been here for 2 and a half years and then since april this is my 3rd visit in 9 months! january is also a glorious time to be here as its in the middle of summer! 🙂

i arrived last week and have had a good time seeing my friends and family. i also finally met little liam (my friend quintin’s son)! i say, finally, but he is still only 8 weeks old or something… but still, i was so looking forward to meeting the little guy from the moment he was there! and, as you can see from above, he is the cutest thing!

i took some more photos which i’ll hopefully be posting soon! i don’t know what my blogging will be like over the next week, but i’ll try at the very least to put up pictures and i’ll do my best to give you guys a visit!

the rest of the time my mom and i have been hanging out, which has been really nice. we mostly watch “buck rogers”. some of you already know that one of the main ways in which my mom and i connect is through science fiction, particularly science fiction tv shows. so its always really nice to watch that kind of thing with her.

buck rogers is particularly special. before i start getting lyrical about that now (’cause i hope to write a proper post about it!) i’ll just say that it was one of the first shows we used to watch and i was really tiny when we started watching it. i think we may have caught it when there was a re-run a few years later, but other than then we haven’t seen it for, oh, about a good 20 years!

then last year i found it on amazon and started working out when i might be able to afford. it turns out i didn’t have to, ’cause when i visited my mom in october we just happened to stumble upon it in a dvd shop and she immediately snapped it up (along with a jacques brel dvd for me as well – she really is good to me!).

and so, i brought the dvd set back with me and we’ve been watching it all holiday now…!

you gotta love buck rogers! 😀

I wondered what happened to you, JP!! Sounds like you are having another great trip!! It does sound weird though, to hear you talk about summer in January!! Considering tonight, I’m going to be fighting bitterly cold winds, and a wind chill of about -8 degrees!!

The middle of summer? Sounds lovely 🙂

Hey JP! Good to hear from you 🙂 Glad to hear you’re having a good time in South Africa. That’s awesome that you and your mom share a love of sci-fi and can enjoy Buck Rogers together! Very cool…And I have to agree with Steph and Fence…Summer in January?! Strange, but nice. Although it’s in the 70’s here today which is really nice weather.

Ahh, summer in January. Although I’ve experienced it several times in Brazil, it never ceases to confuse me. It sounds like you’re having a great time! Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Sounds like quite a lovely time! How totally cool that you and your mom have such fun things to share! Can’t wait to see more pictures!

Glad to have you drop in here. Was getting worried about you. Glad you had a great trip.

Buck Rogers, now that brings up all kinds of nostalgia. I saw Erin Grey at a convention 5 or 6 years ago and she was as hot as ever.

Buck Rogers – that stirs up lots of childhood memories. I like it that you share this with your mom.

    Enjoy yourself, okay?

    Yes please. More pictures.
I too was wondering where you were, glad it’s someplace good!

Glad to hear your having a great time in South Afica. I was wondering about you. Buck Rogers is a show I grew up loving as well. It’s also nice to see that nice summer weather because here in the states we’re freezing. 🙂

Ah, Gil Gerard! That brings back memories. My friends and I used to play this. I think I might need to be borrowing this DVD from you!

yeah, it is very weird that it was summer there. it was weird enough when i was living there and saw on tv and all that it was cold at that time of year in america and europe, but now, with me living in england and actually experiencing the winter… that makes it even weirder when i go back and its hot. but my body remembers, you know? after a while it felt right…

watching “buck rogers” was so cool! i’m glad many of you liked the show too!

    ELIZABETH:

that is very cool that you and your son watch anime together – its really nice to share that sort of thing…

    CARL:

you met erin grey! that is too cool! i told my mom and her response was quite funny. initially she didn’t respond, then i said, “did you hear what i said, carl said he met wilma at a convention!!” and she was like “so”. so i go ” ‘so’?! isn’t that cool?!”. and she says, “its a woman. i’m not interested in meeting a woman. now, if it was buck rogers…”.

    haha! my mom is funny…
